A few days ago, i went to to Restaurant X to tapau some lauk for lunch. I was already feeling hungry, so instead of the initial plan to cook rice at home, i tapaued some rice as well. I just signed a pledge to save the turtles and was feeling very environmentally aware at the moment.

Between a plastic bag and a polystyrene container, i chose the plastic bag to tapau my rice, thinking it was the lesser of the two evils. A girl hurried over to me and shoved a polystyrene container in my hands

girl: "Kak, isi nasi dalam bekas nih".
me: "Tak nak". [I was surprised by her aggressiveness, that i couldnt think of a better reply. please forgive me. ]

Later at the counter, the same girl was minding the cashier. She called her mother over

girl: "Mak, tgk lah nih". Showing her mum my plastic filled rice.
lady: "Eeeeee". [Disgusted tone]. "Kenapa isi nasi dalam nih?"
me: "Tak boleh ke?"
lady: "Eeeeee". [Again, disgusted tone]. "Mana boleh! Takde orang buat".
me: "Saya baru je buat. Lagipun bukan ke Malaysia Boleh?"

We are still in an environment where we do what is expected and what is normal. We cant do something because no one else does it. Apakah? That would make a less colorful society if everyone is the same.

In the meantime, I dont think i'll be getting any discounts from that restaurant anytime soon...
